Bradley Blalock

Written by Karver Jordan

Bradley Blalock is a pitcher for the Greenville Drive a MiLB a High-A Affiliate program of the Boston Red Sox. Blalock is 6 foot 2 inches and 200 pounds. The pitcher was drafted by the Red Sox in 2019, with the 977th overall pick of the 32nd round Bradley Blalock would become apart of the Red Sox. The newly acquired Red Sox pitcher went from High School right to the pros.

I got the chance to talk with Blalock about that feeling of being drafted out of highschool.

“It was an awesome experience. I had to definitely make a tough decision between school and going pro. I’m grateful for the opportunity that the Redsox gave me. I really didn’t get looked at as a big time prospect but I got the opportunity and am trying to take the chance I was given and run with it.”

Taking a look at the highschool career of Bradley Blalock, the numbers were very impressive.

At Grayson highschool the pitcher would leave his mark. Blalock would pitch in 51 innings and would have 83 SO. The pitcher would have an overall ERA of 2.05 and 8 Wins to 4 Loses Ratio. This senior was solid, he would only allow 46 hits and only 23 runs. Good numbers.

I would ask the pitcher what was his senior season like.

“My last high school season was awesome. I played shortstop for my school every day when I wasn’t pitching and even after I pitched too. My senior year was the last time me and my buddies got to play together as we played together since we were 10! We went to the final four my senior year so that was an amazing experience too.”

In 2021, Bradley would pitch in the MiLB for the Salem Red Sox.

That 2021 season for Bradley Blalock was up and down, however the pitcher put up some good numbers. In the 23 game Bradley would pitch in 86 innings. The 6’2 pitcher would have a 3 wins and 6 loses (3-6). Not the way the young pitcher wanted it go however… he would have an ERA of 4.27 he would only allow 96 hits and 49 runs. Moving past all that, Blalock would have 85 strikeouts! Always room for improvement.

Bradley would reflect on the 2021 season.

“2021 was a world wind. It was my first full season of pro ball so it definitely had its ups and downs. I struggled early in the year but once I figured out a few things, then piece by piece I kinda ended up having a good year. Blessed to have had the coaches I had because they taught me many things. “

I got the chance to talk to the Pitcher about what he improved this offseason and how he feels about playing for the Greenville Drive.

“This offseason I worked on getting healthy from having TJ last spring training. I hope to help Greenville drive get to the playoffs and hopefully win a championship.”
