Devin Young

Devin Young

Written By Karver Jordan

Devin Young, The UMaine, and Sacred Heart Pioneer stand out Wide Receiver. Young is 5’10 185 pounds. This wideout is an all-around star, I got the chance to talk with Young at the UMaine pro day. I would ask him what makes him unique.

Young would say “I can play multiple positions, I can do many things.”

Looking at the 2019 season it stood out to me, Young would put up impressive numbers at UMaine in that season. In 12 games played the wideout would have 41 receptions for 593 yards with 4 touchdowns—What makes him so special is that he can produce in the rushing attack as well. The 5’10 WR would have 36 rushing attempts for 167 yards. He would average 4.6 yards a pop.

Moving forward to his last season at UMaine, the 2021 season was great for Devin Young. This wideout would be consistent and would keep producing. He wasn't used as much in the rushing attack however, it was special teams as a return man. Looking at the receiving stats first, Young would appear in 11 games and would record 54 receptions for 585 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was special in the return game, this is what makes him so unique you can use Young in the Wide receiver position, as a running back, or as a return man. Young would have 26 return attempts and would record 691 yards. The standout return man would average 26.6 yards a return.

I talked with Young about what UMaine taught him

Toughness, you work for everything you get, It makes you a better man.”

Looking at Devin Young’s last college season, he was great on special teams. At Sacred Heart, Young would appear in 8 games and would have 6 return attempts for 122 yards. Good numbers heading into the UMaine Proday of 2023.

Devin Young would perform amazingly in the Proday and would showcase a lot of talent. I talked to Young at the end of his pro day and would ask him how he felt after the workout.

“I feel like I did great, I wanted to do better.” Young is going to keep improving.

Heading into the NFL draft I would finish the interview by asking the 5’10 wideout what he is going to improve before then.

Young would say “Learning the game more and expanding the knowledge of the game. Making the game more knowable.”

Young would finish the pro day was an amazing catch.
