Duane Gary

Written by Karver Jordan

Former Western Connecticut Running back/Wide Receiver Duane Gary is now a part of the USFL Pittsburgh Maulers. Gary can do it all and he proved that in college and in the Indoor Football League (IFL) with the Bay Area Panthers. Duane Gary is 5-foot-9 inches (5’9) 172 pounds and 28 years old and is ready to go.

Fans should be excited about Duane Gary. The star RB/WR would touch base on that.

“Maulers fans should be excited to have me because I always put on a show when given the opportunity and I’m a great person that loves the fans!” Gary said.

College Career at Western Connecticut 2017-2018

The college career of Duane Gary was very well. The Wide Receiver/Running back was great on the ground and in the passing attack. The RB/WR would play in 19 games at Western Connecticut University. In those 19 games, Gary would record 129 rushing attempts for 811 yards with 4 touchdowns and 6.3 yards overall average a pop. Great numbers from the RB/WR, shows you how unique this guy can be. The career-receiving stats were even better, and the unique star would record 73 receptions for 971 yards with 6 touchdowns. The Special team's aspect was pretty solid, on kickoffs Gary would have 26 return attempts and would record 677 return yards. GREAT NUMBERS.

With his college career coming to an end Duane Gary would reflect back on what he learned from Western Connecticut University.

“Western Connecticut was a small school but unique because it was a split campus. It was also a great school not only for sports/ activities but in the Academic field as well. Western taught me a lot of great things but one that carries with me til this day is “Time management “ which I believe is very important.”

IFL Stint

In the Indoor Football League, Duane Gary was phenomenal. Gary would rack up 489 yards with 18 touchdowns on the ground. The 5’9 running back was great in the passing game as well. The Unique star would record 19 receptions for 81 yards.

The running back would reflect on his time in the league.

“Well when I was with the Bay Area Panthers I learned how to play indoor football of course which is a lot different than outdoor; But outside of football, I learned how to come out of my comfort zone and network. I also learned how to be patient and seize the moment.”

Pittsburgh Maulers

The Running back would sign with the Maulers and has hopes to bring new aspects to the offense.

Gary would touch base on the signing and what he hopes to bring to the team.

“I hope to help the Maulers have a better record than last year and win a championship and gather something great film showing my skill set on the big stage.” The Running back said.

The USFL is known as the League of Opportunity and thats what Duane Gary wants out of this season. He wants the chance to play in the NFL and believes the USFL will bring that!

“I came to the USFL because I have seen opportunity to get exposure and showcase my skills nationwide for NFL scouts because coming from a smaller school you don’t get to much exposure.”
