Jalen Fowler

Written by Karver Jordan

North Carolinas A&T Aggies quarterback Jalen Fowler is a quarterback in the NFL draft. Fowler is phenomenal, a very well-rounded quarterback. I asked Fowler what should teams know about him as a person. The quarterback would reply with “I would say that I’m a professional, and will always do things the right way. You won’t find me getting into trouble or bringing bad energy to the team. Also, I’m the type of guy to always put forth the best effort for the team, basically doing whatever it takes to help the team succeed.” This quote shows that Fowler is a great leader and will always strive to do what's best for the team. A true leader! Let's look at the amazing college career.

Looking at Jalen Fowler's college career, my first impression was this is a very talented quarterback. Fowler in the rushing game was impressive, with 52 carries for 86 yards. The passing stats are even better, out of 227 passing attempts Jalen completed 141 of those. (141-227) The dual-threat quarterback had 15 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. I asked Jalen what he is working on improving. The quarterback replied “Right now, I am trying to lean out my body and get more cut, my weight doesn’t feel bad and I also don’t look bad right now, but I want to cut some weight to get down to like 228-232 range. I feel this will help with mobility and me being quicker/faster. However, if you just turn on the tape, you will see that I am quite elusive in the pocket and don’t go down easily, extending plays is one of my best abilities as a QB I would say. I also am trying to fix something mechanically in my throwing motion, nothing major, just a little tweak.”

Jalen Fowler would play in the HBCU legacy bowl game and would shine. The performance would turn some heads. Fowler was breaking sacks left and right, delivering perfect passes to keep drives alive. Heading into the NFL draft, we talked about his draft process and how he is preparing for the draft. “The HBCU Legacy Bowl gave me the opportunity to meet legends like Doug Williams and James “Shack” Harris, who are pioneers and legends for black QBs. I must say it was an honor to be around them all week. Personally, I can say the Legacy Bowl and HBCU Combine helped me catch the eyes of a couple of NFL teams. All I want is a fair opportunity, so me getting the chance to workout in front of 32 NFL teams is an opportunity I wouldn’t have gotten without the Legacy Bowl. And lastly, I feel like many people watched the game and I feel like I was one of the most impactful players in the game. I feel like if somebody watched the game I had to impress them in some way.” Fowler said. The HBCU Legacy Bowl game was great prep for the NFL draft and the quarterback met all the standards. I was wondering what Jalen’s draft process looked like and he said “My draft process has been fun honestly, I’ve just been training day in and day out. I got injured on the backend of last season but played through it, so I had to rest a couple of weeks after the season ended, and couldn’t immediately get to training. But every since the new year I’ve been training at least 5 days a week. QB work, or speed/strength work. I got the opportunity to participate in the HBCU combine and Legacy bowl, which were both great opportunities that I am extremely grateful for. I believe I did well in both of the events. Although there was room for improvement in both. I got to interview and meet with scouts from a couple of different NFL teams, which was a great experience. Now, I’m about 3 weeks away from my pro day, so I’m trying to really lock in on every detail to be efficient as possible on March 28th.” Fowler's looking for the perfect opportunity and will strive whenever he gets that opportunity.

Game film review

Jalen Fowler has very good pocket awareness and is very good at making plays out of nothing. Showed a lot of Pocket Awareness in the HBCU legacy bowl. A leader on and off the field, any team who takes a chance on him is getting a great human being off and on the field. Jalen Fowler exceeds in every way possible.

Jalen Fowler's performance earned him the “New England Sports Review MVP Award” of the HBCU Legacy bowl game. The quarterback showed great leadership and true heart and you could tell he loved playing in the game. I asked him how it felt to get the New England Sports Review MVP award. He would respond with “I feel honored, honestly. It felt great to be recognized as the MVP of the game. I wish my team and I could’ve won the game but New England Sports Review believing that I am still the MVP is a great honor. Very appreciative.”

Jalen Fowler earned every bit of the award, a true champion at the end of the day.
