Jig Williams Rhode Island Junior WR/ST

Jig Williams

Written by Karver Jordan

The young WR from Rhode Island, Jig Williams A great special teamer with great speed and a big frame. Williams is listed as a wide receiver however, he is used mostly on special teams.

Jig Williams: Rhode Island Wide Reciver/Special teams

Age: 20

Height and Weight: 6 foot 3 inches (6’3”) 195 pounds

College Career:

The young wideout wouldn’t record any statistics in his career quite yet however, Williams is just waiting for the right opportunity. The young 6’3” wideout can be something special due to his size and his speed. Williams was mostly a special teams player, still a key role on the team. You can call Jig Williams a “Diamond in the Rough” because he is just a diamond waiting to be polished and will shine when called on.

The University of Rhode Island is a great place to be developed into something and achieve your dreams. This was one of the reasons that the 6’3” WR choose Rhode Island over other D1 Colleges like Akron, UNC-Charlotte, Western Kentucky, Tennesse Tech, and lastly, Eastern Kentucky.

Spring game stats:

One reception for 26 yards.

My thoughts: The kid is a talented WR just waiting for the opportunity to showcase those talents to the public. I would expect Head Coach Jim Fleming to use the kid in different ways, A 6’3” frame is huge compared to a smaller DB. Give the kid an opportunity to showcase his playability.

Interview:

I asked the wideout what he is looking forward to this up and coming season.

“What I’m looking forward to the most this season is really just the journey itself. Every year the team is different and I feel like our coaching staff did a really good job with getting the right people in our program. I’m just really excited to see how this year's team builds relationships together and just competes every week.” Williams Said

Jig Williams and I would touch base on special teams.

“Right now, I'm only on kick return and punt return which are two great units to be on. These are two units that could potentially have major influences on games each week and I'm just really honored that the coaches trust me enough to put me on the field in these situations.”

“What makes Jig Williams unique” I would ask.

“I would say what makes me unique is my athleticism I feel like my ability to jump and attack the football in a physical manner is something that helps me be successful on the field”

This kid is going to be a name to watch for this year, great kid on and off the field just looking for a chance!
