Jordan Colbert the 6’3 215 Defensive Back. A great Box Safety. I asked this Safety about what Rhode Island taught him.
“I feel am a special and unique player due to my versatility on the field. I am a 6'3 225 safety who can play in the box and make tackles but also line up on slot receivers in the slot and lock them down. The best part about my game is it's only evolving. My junior year of high school I was 5'7 160 pounds. By senior year I was 6'1 185 so by time I was playing college football I was in an entirely different body than before. This has helped me to become a better player but also took some adjusting to get used to. This year all my learning experiences with myself and on the field will be shown in full effect.”
I followed up with why he chose Rhode Island and what made it stand out.
“Jack Cooper is the reason why I chose the University of Rhode Island. His knowledge of the game was exhibited when he was recruiting me he made that clear. He assured me I would be playing in a versatile defense which was different than Columbia and he takes the time to teach me not just how to play the defense but why we play it that way. “
The safety would have an amazing 2022 season, out of 11 games played the safety would rackup 29 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles with all that making his season total 39 tackles. The safety is great in the box–I got to watch some game film, This safety can HIT! Very good ball skills and very fast and can regain ground with his speed. This safety will continue to improve.
“I am improving my knowledge of the game and defensive scheme. Coming from such a simple defensive scheme and going to an NFL-style defense was a big adjustment. Last year I knew my job but this year I want to know what everyone's job in the defense is to help me play faster. I am also being showcased at multiple positions in spring ball including nickel, Free safety, and strong safety so my versatility as a player will be exhibited more this upcoming season.”
Colbert would talk about what fans should expect from him.
“I am a very hard worker on and off the field. I make sure to treat people with respect no matter who they are and am willing to lend a hand to help someone whether that's with football or anything in life. No matter what happens in my life God will remain number 1 in my life and I try my best to live by his word through everything I do including football.”
