Markel Scott the great runningback from Langston University is looking to live out the professional dream.
Looking at the numbers of Scott’s senior season, it was truly something special. On 112 attempts the running back would record 850 yards with 850 yards an average of 7.6 yards a carry with 9 touchdowns. Truly a special season for the running back, Markell Scott is 5’10 195 pounds, and can kill you with his speed and his power. With that great season, Markell was given the chance to prove himself in the HBCU legacy bowl game.
Watching Scott in the HBCU legacy game was truly something special, Scott made an impact early by starting off the game hot with a great spin move and a couple of broken tackles. Scott showed that he has that speed and power. Break away speed. The HBCU legacy bowl is a bowl to grant players in the HBCU a chance to showcase there skills and learn from some of the best to ever do it. The 5’10 running back had this to say about the HBCU legacy game “The legacy bowl taught me how to network, value the moment, make connections, and it taught me I do rank in the mix with the best 100 Hbcu players.”
I talked to Scott about his goals after the HBCU Legacy game and what teams should know about Scott, The running back would say “A born leader, who doesn’t shy in the back, loves to take initiative. I’m very confident, everything in life is a competition, no matter what I set forward to do, I have to do it better than someone else, why settle to be average? My skill set of playing running back is elusive/playmaking. My strengths are balance/stability, quickness, and catching out of the backfield. Blocking is a strength of mine as well. I will happily block and play special teams.” Scott would follow up with “To remain close to the man above and grow wiser as a man. As a player my goal is to make it playing professionally, rather if that’s NFL, XFL, CFL, or USFL. Upon making the league my goal is to set a rushing, touchdown, and or catching record of any sort. The goal is to start a legacy so that one’s behind me family, close friends, & individuals growing up can follow, meet, or pass.”
This running back wants to be successful and will do anything to get there, Scott is growing every day. I asked Markel what should fans expect from him. The 5’10 running back would say “Fans should know I am a caring person who works hard and can relate to anyone. I’m an individual who’s mentally strong, works hard, and will help the next person before myself. I believe in Christ and I have this little thing called faith that has helped me Through my life / journey.”
