Written by Karver Jordan
Nasir Smith is a 5’11 223 pounds running back from Central Connecticut State University. (CCSU) Smith was great in his senior season, both in the rushing attack and in the passing game. I talked with the running back about what teams should know about him.
“Teams should know that I’m a great teammate, a competitor, someone who really loves the game of football and the grind that comes with it every day!”
Looking at the 2021-22 season, Nasir Smith was phenomenal. In 11 games played the runningback would record 125 rushing attempts for 607 yards along with 2 touchdowns. A great average of 4.9 yards a carry. Smith would talk about the 2021-22 season.
“The 2021-2022 season was my first year playing at central after I transferred from Alfred. It was a season we faced a lot of adversity. But it got me ready for this past season for sure!”
Looking at the 2022-23 season, Smith was phenomenal, better in every stat. Phenomenal is one word to put it. The running back would be great in the passing attack as well as the rushing game. Out of 11 games played the running back would have 231 rushing attempts and would rack up a career-high in rushing yards and touchdowns. 1,219 rushing yards along with 13 touchdowns! That’s one hell of a breakout year. Smith would touch base on the rushing attack and hows he is going to improve.
“I’ve been working on my third-level speed and explosiveness so I can make more of the big home run plays!”
In the passing attack, Smith was great. Out of 11 games played the running back would have 23 receptions for 209 yards with 1 touchdown. Smith is good in both the rushing attack and passing attack.
Smith would talk about how he is going to improve his ability to create plays in the passing game.
“Just continue to work on my craft and get better every day—And continue to do what I’ve always did and work on all the aspects of the game that a running back needs so I have no flaws!”
Smith would finish off the interview by talking about what Central taught him.
“Central taught me a lot, Taught me to enjoy the process and how to face adversity, there were a lot of highs and lows but that comes with the game of football and life. Central we got everything out the mud so it also taught me how to appreciate things more. Central made me a better man on and off the field. So I am always thankful for CCSU!”
Nasir Smith is in the NFL draft and fans should expect a leader, a determined runner, and an absolutely phenomenal back.
