Roland Rivers III the Quarterback Journey. You ask yourself who is Roland Rivers III? Well, Rivers is a player not many people have heard of until the Pittsburgh Steelers picked him up as an undrafted free agent out of Slippery Rock University a D2 school.
Roland Rivers III would go on to have a stellar career at Slippery Rock University. Rivers would attempt 1,107 passes and complete 686 of those. Rivers would rack up 9,041 passing yards in his career. He would have 99 total touchdown passes. Roland Rivers is not known much as a runner but when the team needs a play Rivers makes it. Rivers would have 434 rushing attempts with 1,723 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns.
Rivers enjoyed watching Michael Vick growing up. Rivers started playing Quarterback after seeing Ben Roethlisberger.
A couple career highlights Roland Rivers had was 2019 PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year. He would add a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Championship MVP under his name in 2019. He would set SRU (Slippery Rock University) single-season records for total offense, passing yards, passing TDs, and completions. In 2019 Rivers was named D2CCA and Don Hansen National Offensive Player of the year. Rivers would add many more awards throughout the years of his career at Slippery Rock. Moving forward to life after college football.
In 2019 Roland Rivers would declare for the NFL draft. A dream every college player has waiting to hear there name called. Rivers would go on to be undrafted due to the 2020 pandemic. Rivers finally got his shot to prove what he was made of. Rivers was selected to go to CAMP by Hub Football. The whole purpose of the camp was to show that you had what it took to be in the NFL. Rivers would finally go on to get his chance with the Pittsburgh Steelers inviting him to their rookie camp! Rivers would go on to not sign with the Steelers.
In May 2022, Rivers would get another chance to strive for a great professional football career. The USFL Pittsburgh Maulers with a losing record of 1-5 gave Rivers a chance to come and play for them. Rivers would finally start his career vs the New Jersey Generals. He would go 18-38 passes for 218 yards and a 1 touchdown. After that game he would be a backup for the last 4 games of the season, But he would appear in games still. He would have 366 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception with 366 passing yards.
