Theo Denlinger
Written by Karver Jordan
The pitcher from Bradley University, Theo Denlinger. You can say this is a very well-rounded player for the Red Sox. The 6’3 240-pound pitcher was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 7th round in 2021. Later on in his career, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2023. Let’s go back in time and take a look at where Denlinger started.
At Bradley University, you can say Denlinger was solid. The 6’3 pitcher would pitch in 17.2 innings and allow only 19 hits as well as 9 runs. Denlinger would have 21 strikeouts over the year. Great numbers for the pitcher. Denlinger was made for the MLB and deserved a shot, he was light outs at Bradley. I got the chance to talk with Theo about what that season was like.
“Last season at Bradley was awesome and the team was looking and doing real good but then of course we always run into our rival DBU and they took us down. Overall at Bradley I had a really good career and final year and that’s what led to me getting drafted.”
In 2022, Denlinger was great. The pitcher would appear in 40 games and be phenomenal. Denlinger would have a win-lose record of 2-2, all even. Theo would also have an ERA of 4.47 for the season. The strikeouts and the number of innings this pitcher pitched were great, the 6’3 pitcher would pitch in around 48.1 games and have 66 Strikeouts! An overall great season from Denlinger. I would talk to Theo about the 2022 season.
“The 2022 season was unlike any baseball year I’ve ever had and it was really eye-opening because it was my first full season in professional baseball. Not a single day went by in the 2022 season that I didn’t want to be at the field doing what I love. My first full year in pro ball really reinforced my love and obsession with baseball.”
In the Minor leagues, Theo was great. Out of appearing in 56 games, the pitcher would have a Win-Lose record of 2-3 with an overall ERA of 4.15 great numbers from Theo. In 65 innings pitched, Denlinger would have 97 SO. Great numbers.
Moving forward to 2023, Theo and I talked about this upcoming season and coaches who have helped him along the way.
“There isn’t a single coach that I’ve come across that hasn’t at least helped me in someway progress my mental and physical game in baseball. Hopefully this 2023 season I can show Boston Red Sox coaches, and fans that I have what it takes to play in the big leagues. The minor leagues have taught me to stay as consistent as possible, and to learn to love the journey not the destination. For this season, I really prepped and worked on my offspeed pitches by trying to gain a little bit more velocity and control with all of them.”
