Jalen Morton: Birmingham Stallions quarterback

Age: 25

Height/Weight: 6 foot 4 inches (6’4) 226 Pounds

The former Prairie View A&M University has had quite a career so far. This Dual-threat QB has shown great leadership wherever he may be. The kid is a leader. The college career of Jalen Morton was nothing short of spectacular.

College career

This kid can play quarterback, has great pocket awareness, and has a great ability to spin the football. The QBs career at Prairie View A&M University was phenomenal. Jalen Morton would complete 372 passes out of the 695 passes attempted (372-695) for 5,237 yards with 42 touchdowns to 29 interceptions. Great number’s from the quarterback; Passing isn’t the only thing Morton can do, he is a dual-threat QB for a reason. On the ground, the QB had 270 rushing attempts while racking up 1,579 yards with 22 touchdowns on the ground. Playmaker. The 6’4 QB had an overall average per carry of 5.8 yards an attempt. Morton would finish his career with a completion percentage of 54%. Jalen Morton had an amazing college career and is now set to be a professional football player.

Professional career

Jalen Morton is now on the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL however, before joining the Stallions Morton was on the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts of the NFL, then the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL. Let’s take a look at the places Jalen Morton has stopped over the course of this journey.

Green Bay Packers NFL

Jalen Morton had a huge arm coming out of Prairie View A&M University and the Green Bay Packers loved it. The UDFA would sign with the Packers in 2020 but was later released a couple of months after the signing.

Indianapolis Colts NFL

The beginning of February of 2021 is when Jalen Morton would get another chance. The Colts would sign the Dual-Threat QB. It was an overall great experience for Morton. The kid is a student of the game and is always trying to improve his game. However, it would end in August. Still a great learning experience.

I got the chance to speak with Jalen Morton about what it was like in Colt's training camp.

“Going into training camp with the Colts was amazing! I loved every bit of it. From all aspects, it was a great QB room and coaches when I was there.” Jalen Said

Hamilton Tiger-Cat CFL

Morton wouldn’t see much playing time but he was on the roster from 2021-2022. It was around a year of learning a new aspect and getting professional coaching, but overall a great time for Jalen Morton.

I asked the 6’4 quarterback what was it like up there in Canada and playing in the CFL.

“The CFL was great! Definitely a culture pot! Learning a new language in football to have a wide field and 12 people on it with a running start is different but it helped me recognize coverages even better than before and to be always situationally aware because technically it’s only 2 downs up there.” Jalen Morton talking about the CFL experience.

Birmingham Stallions USFL

Jalen Morton would sign with Stallions in December of 2022. The 2022 USFL Champions added the Dual-threat qb with a huge arm to the roster. The QB hopes to be successful with the Stallions and it should be a great opportunity to showcase his talents.

I asked Morton what he hopes to get out of the USFL.

“Out of the USFL, just the mindset of coaches and how they see the game. The knowledge behind well-known Skip Holtz. As well as to get more film to get back to showcase my abilities to play at the higher level.” The 6’4 226 pound qb said.

Morton would touch base on what it was like joining the USFL Champion team.

“Being a part of a championship team feels like we are hungrier than ever. Due to the vets wanting another ring and the new guys wanting to get a ring. So it’s competitive every day but it’s the smallest details that get harped on to be great so that we are better than last year.”

Someone Jalen Looks up to

“I've always looked up to my pops. I’ve seen so much from my pops to where he has had sleepless days or weeks trying to help my family. He never complains and I know that anything will get handled by him.”
